We care for nature

Camp Hverringe is located close to both forest and beach, so it is important for us to take good care of nature

The greatest resource we have at Camp Hverringe is the nature that surrounds us.

That is why we work hard to take good care of it. Our work with responsible choices is in full swing. There are endless things you can do. Some things are easy to do, while others require more work. We are working on both, and below you can see some of the things we are working on.

In 2024, we received our Green Camping certification in recognition of the measures we have taken, and this scheme requires us to continue to introduce new measures on an ongoing basis.

Camp Hverringe is located in a Natura 2000 area, which means we are subject to restrictions on what we can do on the beach. In return for these restrictions, we have the opportunity to enjoy nature up close with rich wildlife and beautiful natural areas.

🌿 Help us take care of nature
For us, nature is part of the experience. Together, we can make a difference and take good care of the environment – both here on site and in the surrounding area. Small actions make a big difference.

💧 Save water
Water is a valuable resource.
Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
Take shorter showers.
Avoid letting water run unnecessarily.
A small tip: A thorough shower before entering the pool helps keep the water clean and reduces the need for chemicals. This is good for both the environment and your swimming experience.

♻️ Sort your waste
Denmark invests significant resources in recycling – and we want to do our part.
Use the waste stations correctly.
Sort your waste into the right containers.
Help us reduce the amount of residual waste (waste that cannot be recycled).
The better we sort, the more can be recycled 💚

🌱 Leave only your footprints
Nature is our shared responsibility.
Do not litter in nature.
Stay on marked paths whenever possible.
Avoid picking protected plants.
Remember to pick up after your dog.
We want both current and future guests to enjoy the area in its natural state.

🦌 Experience wildlife with respect
The area around us is home to rich wildlife.
Enjoy animals from a distance.
Do not feed wild animals.
Be considerate at dusk and early in the morning, when many animals are most active.
Keep you dog on a lead. (which is madatory in Denmark anyway)
Learn more about the wildlife in the area on the information boards around the site.

🔌 Save energy

Turn off lights and electrical appliances when not in use.
Consider energy-saving solutions in your caravan.
Only keep necessary devices plugged in.

🛍️ Think sustainably

Bring reusable shopping bags instead of plastic bags.
Choose refillable water bottles.
Avoid disposable tableware whenever possible.

🌿 Together we make a difference
When each of us contributes a little, it adds up to a big impact. Thank you for helping us take care of nature – so we can preserve the great camping experience for many years to come 🌿

The green & responsible initiatives at Camp Hverringe

  • Aguardio is an award-winning system that measures the time spent in the shower. We have installed them in all our shower rooms, resulting in a 20% reduction in water consumption. And suddenly, the ladies are the ones taking the shortest showers
  • We also have leak sensors from Aguardio in our toilets, so we can quickly be notified if a toilet starts running
  • In anticipation of more and more electric cars, we have installed four charging stations from Spirii. You just download the app, pay and charge
  • Electricity – guests are encouraged to consume less, which is why we have switched to paying for all electricity by meter. We are also seeing more and more guests who have solar cells on their caravans and do not want to pay for electricity, which we would like to reward
  • LED bulbs. We are in the process of replacing all our lamps with environmentally friendly light sources
  • Information screens around the buildings provide an opportunity to promote environmental initiatives and advertise remaining stock in the shop
  • We have a digital activity calendar, which means it is no longer necessary to print it
  • We are in the process of implementing more waste sorting and, at the beginning of 2026, we will participate in a programme to help reduce the amount of residual waste
  • We used to heat our pool with oil, but we have now installed four heat pumps to provide the heating
  • Dosing systems for cleaning products – we have reduced our consumption of cleaning products by 50% and have switched most cleaning products to eco-labelled products
  • New floor cleaning machines that use significantly less water
  • We had Denmark’s first Camperclean machine that can empty toilet cassettes. The machine uses less water than is normally used for emptying and then dispenses the new environmentally friendly liquid automatically
  • We no longer print a large catalogue
  • We facilitate the sharing economy by providing a forum where seasonal guests can connect with tourists and rent out their caravans when they are not using them. It is also possible to borrow or leave books you have read in our shop
  • We collaborate with several local actors
  • We offer jobs to many young people in the area. For many, this is their first contact with the labour market, and we have many who end up coming back year after year until they finish their education
  • We offer organic and plant-based alternatives in the shop
  • We no longer sell 1/2 litre bottles of water in the shop; instead, we offer water containers that can be filled for free in our kitchens
  • We lend out various games free of charge
  • We rent out bicycles and offer maps with different routes, and we are also part of Bike Fyn
  • Most activities on the site require no energy consumption other than people’s own efforts
  • We have already replaced several vehicles and machines with electric versions
  • The cleaning products we provide for our guests in our rental units are Cradle to Cradle certified
  • We use sensors on our lights wherever possible
  • We are continuously expanding our efforts
  • We are continuously expanding our “Wild at Heart” areas and only spray against weeds to the extent permitted by Green Camping
